Upcoming NCRG Webinars Address Comorbidity, Self-Exclusion

The National Center for Responsible Gaming kicks off its 2010 NCRG Webinar Series on June 17, 2010 from 2 p.m. - 3 p.m. EDT with “Co-Occurring Disorders: How Research is Informing the Identification and Treatment of Pathological Gambling.” In this session, Dr. Marc Potenza of Yale University School of Medicine will discuss how the high rate of co-occurring disorders among disordered gamblers affects how we understand and treat pathological gambling, and the influence of this research on the proposed changes to the definition of pathological gambling in the DSM-V. The program is free but advance registration is required.

Reminder: Exploration Grant Applications Due June 1!

The Institute for Research on Gambling Disorders offers three types of project grants to support research on gambling disorders, and the application deadline for our Exploration Grants is just around the corner – June 1, 2010. Exploration Grants provide $5,000 for a period of 12 months and are intended to support pilot studies or other small projects.

NAADAC Names Institute an Approved Education Provider

The Institute for Research on Gambling Disorders has been awarded “Approved Education Provider” status by NAADAC, the Association for Addiction Professionals. This approval identifies continuing education opportunities offered by the Institute as meeting nationally approved standards of education developed for the addiction counseling field and assures participants that continuing education units (CEUs) provided by the Institute will be accepted toward national credentialing by the NAADAC Certification Commission and by many of the individual state licensing and certification bodies as well.

Akron Beacon Journal: NCRG Heads to Cleveland in July to Raise Awareness about Disordered Gambling

Each year, representatives from the National Center for Responsible Gaming (NCRG) and the Institute for Research on Gambling Disorders hit the road to raise awareness about disordered gambling. As reported in the Akron Beacon Journal this weekend, our representatives will be heading to Cleveland, Ohio for the NCRG’s fourth annual road tour.

Institute Grant Deadlines Fast Approaching!
