NCRG Conference Scholarships are Now Available!

Deadline to apply: Friday, August 26

The NCRG is thrilled to announce that a record number of need-based scholarships are now available to help offset the cost of attending the annual NCRG Conference on Gambling and Addiction.  This year, based on response and availability, the NCRG will provide between 20 and 30 individual sponsorships to attend the NCRG Conference.  Up to 10 of these scholarships may also include travel assistance of $200. Scholarships are available to all interested attendees, especially those in the clinical and public health sectors.  A notable percentage of scholarships have been reserved for residents of Nevada.

Two New Certifications Added to the NCRG Conference

The NCRG is excited to add two new certifications to the NCRG Conference on Gambling and Addiction’s growing list of certifying agencies for continuing education credits! The American Academy of Health Care Providers in the Addictive Disorders (Academy) has approved continuing education credit for Certified Addiction Specialists (CAS) (Approval No. 11-1466). Also the State of Nevada Board of Examiners for Social Workers (approval # A-511-11) approved the NCRG Conference’s 13 credit hours.  We are happy to have them on board.

NCRG Conference Update: New Accreditation Announcement for 13 Professional Development Hours

There are many exciting new developments regarding continuing education credits for the 12th annual NCRG Conference on Gambling and Addiction! Last week, we announced that the NCRG is an APA-approved continuing education sponsor. We just heard the news that the Employee Assistance Certification Commission (EACC) has also approved the 12th Annual NCRG Conference on Gambling and Addiction for 13 professional development hours.

Submit Your Abstracts for the NCRG Conference Poster Session

The National Center for Responsible Gaming (NCRG) showcases new research on gambling disorders during a poster session and reception held at the 12th annual NCRG Conference on Gambling and Addiction in Las Vegas, Nev. The poster session on October 2, 2011 at the Las Vegas Sands Expo and Convention Center is an opportunity for investigators to report their empirical research and converse with conference attendees about their findings. We especially encourage young investigators to submit abstracts. The deadline to submit abstracts is August 1, 2011.

Do you know of a researcher, educator or a recent publication that has made an impact in the field of gambling disorder research? The National Center for Responsible Gaming (NCRG), the largest private source of funding for peer-reviewed research on disordered gambling in the U.S., annually recognizes outstanding contributions to the field of gambling studies with the NCRG Scientific Achievement Award. This year’s award will be presented during the NCRG Conference on Gambling and Addiction in Las Vegas, October 2-4, 2011. The deadline for nominations is August 1, 2011.

NCRG Conference: HealthStreet - An Innovative Strategy for Involving the Under-Served in Research on Gambling & Other Disorders

Sunday’s third general session at the 11th annual NCRG Conference on Gambling and Addiction focused on an innovative approach to connecting health care providers and researchers with people in under-served communities.

Linda Cottler, Ph.D., professor of of epidemiology at Washington University School of Medicine in St. Louis, presented “HealthStreet: An Innovative Strategy for Involving Under-served Populations in Research on Gambling and Other Disorders.” The HealthStreet program, which began in the 1990s as an HIV treatment program housed in a rundown movie theater, has expanded to collect data on dozens of health measures, while connecting people to health resources and research studies in every corner of St. Louis.

NCRG Conference: Raising Awareness – Making the Most of Responsible Gaming Education Weeks
